COLLECTION
The collection of the Library of the Anton de Kom University consists of documents concerning the studies of our three Faculties namely:

*    Faculty of Social Sciences (Economics, Law, Business Administration,
      Sociology and Public Administration)
*    Faculty of Technological Sciences ( Environment, Mineral Production,
      Electronics, Agriculture, Mechanical Engineering)
*    Faculty of Medicine (Medical Science, Physiotherapy)

The Suriname collection, a special collection, contains publications on Suriname.

Suriname does not have a national library, therefore most libraries has their own Suriname collection.
This precious information about our country will soon be accessible online. 
The National Database Suriname, a collaboration between several libraries in Suriname, will be established.  

The University Library has the Depository Library status of the FAO and the United Nations. As a UN Depository Library the publications and documents of the UN are available printed as online. 

Since 1990 the catalogue is automated in CDS/ISIS (Computerized Documentation System/ Integrated Set of Information System).
The collection is not only accessible via the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
but also via internet.

INFORMATION MEDIATION
Special information needs, which can not be satisfied by the information desk at the loan department  should be submitted at and will be answered by the Department of Information Mediation (Head, mrs. Erna Helder-Beek,  info.adekbib@uvs.edu).

INTERLIBRARY LOAN
With this service publications, which are not available in the University Library are borrowed from other libraries, also from abroad.

DATABASES
The University Library participates in several international and regional networks. For some our Library is the national coordinator. The data is processed by the different institutions and send to headquarters by the Department of Automation of the University Library (Head, ms. Glenda N. Louis, (data.adekbib@uvs.edu).

Agriculture

AGRIS/CARIS:
The FAO Agricultural Information System, a bibliographic database for agricultural literature and the Current Agricultural Research Information System are coordinated by WAICENT/FAO. These databases are both available on CD-ROM and on the internet.

SIDALC 
SIDALC (Agricultural Information and Documentation System for America
) is a hemispheric network that is based on the wealth of agricultural information resources found in the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) offices, the Inter-American Institute for Tropical Agricultural Research (CATIE) in Turrialba, Costa Rica and the libraries and documentation centers in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). 
The system is funded by the Kellog Foundation, IICA and the Participants of the network (in the form of counterpart contributions). It's mission is to facilitate access to agriculture and related information, produced and/or identified in LAC, in order to aid the development of the nations of these countries.
Actors are the participants including the IICA offices in 34 countries and the related national institutions.
 

Health
The objective of the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME) is the promotion of technical cooperation in scientific and technical health information in Latin America and the Caribbean.  
BIREME coordinates the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Information System from PAHO and is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

LILACS

The Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME) coordinates the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Information System from PAHO and is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This database is on-line and Internet accessible, while 30th LILACS CD-ROM was released march 1998.

MEDCARIB
This is the English Caribbean component of the system, available on-line, through Internet and on LILACS.

Politics
PDBA
The University library in close cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences has made a commitment to provide the Political Database of the Americas (PDBA) with  relevant information about Suriname. Therefore on a regular basis updated data from the interested and involved parties out of the Civil Society is collected, screened and scrutinized according to academic standards.

Socio-economics
CDL
The Caribbean Digital Library is a virtual collection of Caribbean documents and other information resources available on the world wide web, organized for easy retrieval under 27 broad subject headings.

Environment
SIAMAZ
The Amazone Information System is coordinated by a regional coordinating center located at the Library of the Universidade Federal do Para (UFPA) in Belem, Para, Brazil.
