THE DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY AND MINING

The Department of Geology and mining currently offers two study programs, a 3-year and 4-year undergraduate program.  The 4-year undergraduate program will eventually decommission in preference for the 3-year program.

 

There are currently 39 students  enrolled in the 4-year program in the 2006-2007 academic year. Student will graduate with Bachelor degree in Geology or Mining. In contrast, there are currently 140 students enrolled in the 3-year program: students will graduate with Bachelor degrees in Mineral Resource Management.

 

Students who graduate in DP are employed within the government, mining industry, management and or build consulting companies.

 

The Department of Geology and Mining has built a solid reputation in Geoscience education in Suriname on undergraduate level. A research strength in Geoscience is in development. It is the vision of the the school that the combined strength in Geoscience education and research will lead to the inception of the first "Centre of Excellence" in the Caribbean in Geology and Mining.
