Baldew, Se-Sergio
Biography:
Se-Sergio Baldew is a senior lecturer (Lector) and researcher at the Department of Physical Therapy of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS) since 2008. He teaches within the Bachelor and Master Physical Therapy programs, the Bachelor of Public Health program, and contributes as a guest lecturer within the Bachelor of Medicine program. Since 2023, he has served as secretary of the Examination Committee of the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
He obtained his BSc in Physical Therapy from the AdeKUS and his MSc in Physical Therapy from KU Leuven, where he specialized in rehabilitation of internal disorders. He completed his PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy at KU Leuven, focusing on physical activity, fitness, and cardiovascular risk factors in Suriname.
Currently he is a board member of the South American Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Network (SAPASEN) and an executive committee member of the world physiotherapy North American Caribbean Region (WP-NACR).

Research:
Currently, his research focuses on implementing a heart failure rehabilitation program in Suriname, in collaboration with the Cardiology department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP). In collaboration with researchers from SAPASEN and other organizations he is also working on physical activity research, including studying the effect of exercise parameters on health outcomes and effective implementation strategies to improve physical activity behavior locally and regionally.
