Clarisha Nijman
Biography:
Clarisha Nijman is a mathematics teacher/lecturer and researcher who specializes in statistics. Her past research focused on topics concerning public transport and the education sector in Suriname. This experience gave her opportunities (2014, 2020) to design and lead research projects on behalf of the Ministry of Education. She is still conducting training sessions to help employees to upgrade their research skills.
In 2019, she got a MSc degree in “Stochastic operational research” —a special field of applied mathematics where mathematical modelling is central. For her thesis she designed a prediction model for a time series using a two-dimensional higher order Markov chain.
She is currently working as a lecturer at AdeKUS where she helps to design and deliver courses at the Department of Mathematics. Her aim is to teach students as many digital skills as possible to prepare them for the global ICT boom.
Since 2022, she is conducting a PhD study at the University of French Guyana. The topic of her PhD thesis is developing an optimal control harvesting model for a multispecies structured forest.
