Cynthia Flijders
Biography:
Cynthia Flijders studied Dutch language at the Advanced Teacher Training College (IOL) in Paramaribo, where she received her secondary and first level diploma’s (MO-A and MO-B) in 2002 and 2008, respectively. In 2018 she got a master’s egree in Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname, and began working at the faculty as a part-time lecturer. In 2020, she joined the faculty as a full-time lecturer. Currently she teaches Language Skills I, Stylistics I and II, Introduction to Semantics, and Language Relations in Suriname. She also chairs the Exam Committee of the faculty.
Research:
- A study into the influence of English on the Dutch language use of Surinamese youth.
- Phonological phenomena in word formation in Sranan.
