Djokarto Rinette
Biography:
Rinette Djokarto graduated from the Law faculty of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname and has a double Masters in Public Administration and Public Health. Currently she is a lecturer in Criminology and Penal law at the Faculty of Law at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname. She is also a member of the management team of the Children’s Rights Institute of the Faculty of Law of the Anton de Kom University. Rinette is pursuing her Phd studies at the University of Leiden Faculty of Law, researching Restorative Justice within the Juvenile Justice System of Suriname. In the field of Restorative Justice Rinette was part of a project research team exploring the elements of restorative justice within the maroon and indigenous communities of Suriname. Rinette Djokarto has been a member of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Suriname since 2020.

- Development of curriculum for alternative measures in juvenile justice
- Development of legislation on alternative measures and sanctions (diversion) for juveniles
- Research on Restorative Justice within the traditional communities (the Maroons and the Indigenous community)
- Research on the access to justice for children (Convention on the Rights of the Child)
- Phd-research : Restorative Justice within the Juvenile Justice System of Suriname
- Author of one of the country chapters for the Latin America and the Caribbean book of The International Encyclopaedia of Restorative Justice (pending)
