Fitzgerald Anoep, Gopie
Biography:
Fitzgerald Gopie specialised in pulmonary medicine at the Medisch Spectrum Twente in Enschede, The Netherlands. Since 2007 he is employed as pulmonologist by the Academic Hospital in Paramaribo, Suriname, where he is also involved in training medical interns. In 2011 he was appointed lecturer of pulmonary medicine at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname. Dr Gopie has served as vice chair of the Suriname Medical Association board and was a fellow of the Rotary Club Paramaribo Residence for many years. In 2021 he started his PhD trajectory on tuberculosis at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname. Tuberculosis is currently the focus of his research. In December 2025 he became the dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at de Anton de Kom University of Suriname.
