Gittan Pengel-Ondunk
Biography:
Gittan Ondunk holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, a master’s degree in Sustainable Development, and has completed certificate modules from the master’s program in Research Methods to complete her research skills.
In 2014, she obtained her pedagogical certificate in the subject Sociology at the Advanced Teacher Training College (IOL) and is in the final phase of the Teachers Professionalization in Education (DPO) training program at the AdeKUS.
In her current role as an adjunct staff member, she teaches several courses within the research tracks of the faculty’s bachelor’s programs. She is also a member of the Research Unit Logopedie (RUL), an interfaculty research unit that strives to play a key role in speech therapy care in Suriname through practice-oriented scientific research and social services.
In this capacity, she contributes to various community activities aimed at promoting the Dutch language among children (in the different districts) and professionalizing teachers and daycare workers. Therefore, her current research focus is on reading, particularly effective reading instruction, to thereby strengthen the reading skills of young Surinamese children.
