MACNACK, Abriënne MSc

Biography:

I am a lecturer at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMeW), where I also serve as the assessment coordinator for both the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Physiotherapy, as well as a member of the assessment committee. More recently, I have joined the accreditation committee for the bachelor’s program in Physiotherapy.

My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences (2013) at FMeW, followed by a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (2015), during which I was honored with the Dean’s Award. My master’s thesis was titled: “The effect of a telemonitored 12-week home-based exercise program on obesity and overweight in the Surinamese population: A pilot study.”

In addition to my formal education, I have completed several specialized courses, including Mulligan Techniques, General Movements Assessment, a Postgraduate Course on Cerebral Palsy, a Training Course for Medical Professionals at Hunan Children’s Hospital in China, as well as programs in Long-Term Athlete Development and Physical Literacy.

As a socially conscious professional, I have contributed multiple times as a member of the medical team for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs during the Consude Games and the Inter-Guiana Goodwill Games. I have also provided medical support for Suriname’s national U-17, U-20, and senior women’s soccer teams.

In my physiotherapy practice, I have frequently treated sports-related injuries, particularly those associated with soccer. I firmly believe that sports are vital to human functioning, and therefore, safeguarding the health of the musculoskeletal system remains central to my professional focus and passion
