Biography:

Shanti Venetiaan is currently the President (Chair) of the Board of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS), a position which she was appointed to in November 2020.

She got her PhD-degree in Mathematical Statistics at the Faculty of Mathematics & Informatics of the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1994. She has more than 25 years experience in teaching mathematics at the AdeKUS and has published in international peer reviewed journals.

During her career she held different positions, among others, secretary of the Board of the Faculty of Technology (FTeW) and deputy director of the Institute for Graduate Studies and Research (IGSR). From 2015 to 2019, she was the first dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FWNW), where she played an active role in establishing this faculty which now has four bachelor’s programs running.

In 2021 she was appointed full professor in Mathematical Statistics and her interests are predomi-nately in asymptotic expansions. Besides the theoretical subjects, she engages in applied statistics and promotes the use of open source statistical software like R(studio) because of the availability for students.
