Biography:

Eva Stroo, MSc, is a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Anton de Kom University of Suriname. She teaches courses in forensic psychology, suicide and suicide prevention, organizational psychology, and human needs and behaviour. She obtained her Master’s degree in forensic orthopedagogy in the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam and has extensive experience in both clinical and organizational psychology.

In addition to her academic work, she is the founder and Managing Director of Mind Matters Foundation Suriname, the country’s largest specialized non-governmental organization dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention. Through this role, she works closely with government agencies, international organizations and a wide range of public and private organizations on suicide prevention, mental health promotion, crisis intervention, policy development, training and capacity building. She is also actively involved in public education through media appearances, lectures and awareness campaigns.

Her professional interests focus on suicide prevention, crisis intervention, mental health promotion, forensic psychology, organizational mental health, and strengthening accessible mental health care in Suriname.
