Van Genderen, Farah
Biography:
Van Genderen studied Bio-engineering at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and was subsequently selected to pursue a PhD in Medical Sciences at the Diabetes Research Center, Department of Medical Biochemistry (VUB). Her doctoral research focused on the development and validation of immunoassays for markers of beta cell function. During her PhD, she also assisted in teaching first- and second-year practical courses in (Bio)chemistry.
Currently, she is a lecturer at the Anton de Kom University (AdeKUS), where she teaches Biochemistry and Chemistry courses. She has worked in the Department of Biochemistry (Molecular Laboratory), contributing to studies on infectious diseases such as malaria and Chikungunya. At present, she is initiating a new research project exploring the feasibility of processing fish by-products into products with high nutritional and commercial value in Suriname. Her primary research interests include biochemistry, biotechnology, and disease studies.
