Walhain, Fenna
Biography:
Dr. Fenna Walhain is a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS). She earned her PhD in Human Movement Sciences from KU Leuven, Belgium. Her work is driven by a strong commitment to improving the health, participation, and quality of life of children with childhood-onset disabilities.
Dr. Walhain’s research focuses on pediatric rehabilitation, physical fitness, and motor function in children with disabilities—particularly those with cerebral palsy—in low- and middle-income countries. She actively collaborates with international research networks and academic institutions in Europe and North America.
In addition, she serves as coordinator of the Movement and Exercise Laboratory at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, where education and research in human movement, physical fitness, and rehabilitation are integrated. Her work centers on supporting the development of children, with and without disabilities, and enhancing their capacity to explore, learn, and thrive.
